Fear Of A Coming Interview

Are you are in a cold sweat and having a panic attack just thinking about an up-coming interview?

Relax and breathe.

Yes I know, I said ‘breathe’, when you slip into panic mode, you hold your breath and you freeze up. Remember, blue is a lovely colour - but not on your face!

A recent client was facing an interview panel to join the naval reserve as a medical officer and simply didn't think he could handle it.

But an interview panel is just another group and I have helped hundreds of people over the years to overcome their fears of speaking to a group.

In this case we explored his current speaking and presentation abilities and then I supported these with voice building exercises to build his confidence and get him used to the idea of speaking out loud.

I also supported him with tips and techniques on presentation skills.

I role played with him using every question imaginable, asking each in a variety of ways and we practised, practised, practised.

The final step was a serious mock interview panel. This gave me a greater insight into his gaps and where I could help him most.

In this case the interview panel was really tough, including a hard-bitten ex-police officer, and they showed no mercy!  The result?  When he went for the formal interview for the real thing, here is what he said.

‘On the day of my interview I was nervous of course but felt that with Di's help that I had prepared as well as I could. Within a few minutes of the interview commencing I could feel my confidence kicking in. The ‘forty’ minute interview was over in twenty five and I was recommended for the position’.

I can help you too..

I give loads of positive feedback and explore ways for you to improve in a supportive and non-threatening way so you are just bursting to come back next week for more. I work with you in a relaxed setting that encourages you to laugh and enjoy the whole process.

If gaining this sort of confidence sounds like it would be helpful to you, let's meet and have an informal no-cost chat to start building the connection and trust that is so important for a successful coaching relationship.

Just call me or email me and we'll arrange a time.
